We Offer Thanks

Postby STMarvin » Sun Nov 14, 2010 8:00 am

We thank you God for this our harvest meal
and offer up the gratitude we feel.
The earth is rich; your Love has made it so;
it takes the seed and frees its will to grow.
And we in kind, like seeds in furrowed ground,
fulfill our lives where earthly gifts abound.
We say our grace and know the lives we live
would waste away without the Love you give.
And so, oh God, we offer thanks and praise—
this fruitful earth reveals your boundless ways!

Thank you, Eva, Vicki, Steve... glad you enjoyed it. As I'm sure you and other writers have noticed, this particular holiday does not lend itself easily to poetry as far as rhyming goes. Maybe that's why there aren't many famous poems on the subject; we don't give thanks for tanks, or talk about our bounties of Canadian mounties. But I suppose that is what makes writing challenging. Anyway-- thanks. And may everone have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Just wanted to say again Shaun, what very beautiful prayer poem this is, and I only hope I came close to doing it justice. God bless and enjoy, I know that many folks will be blessed by the video. Later.

Dear Shaun, I love your Thanksgiving poem, and the video Steve has made. God blessed you both to touch our hearts with this very beautiful prayer and video and I know it's going to bless lots of folks.
You're a wonderful poet, and though I don't get to comment a lot, I do read and enjoy the poems you share with us. May your Thanksgiving be a joy.
Blessings, Shirley B

It's the message that counts Shaun, and yours was right on target. It's the poem that makes the video. God bless.

Thank you so much for featuring this work on Nethugs. It's always nice to have an effort appreciated. But I can't say strongly enough greatly Steve's masterful presentation enhances a poem. His sense of form and timing, his choice of music-- he does it so well! So again, thanks to you both. And thanks to those others, the many members of Nethugs who write, read, comment and share the creative community of this unique site. We are blessed by each other's company... and does that not, as much as anything, embody the spirit of Thanksgiving. May you all have a truly wonderful holiday.
