END OF A DANCE

At first glance,
he took my breath away.
Embracing life's dance—
gently we swayed.

Gliding in harmony,
across the ballroom floor,
He whispered,
"I've never loved like this before.

Swaying passionately
to the top of the mountain—
like sweet nectar,
and wine from youth’s fountain.

I’d waited a lifetime
for his sweet love—
our hearts beat in sync
like two turtle doves.

My love never ceased—
in time you changed,
losing direction,
our souls were estranged.

What could have been
never will be—
your image comes to mind,
and sadness engulfs me.

THANK YOU DEAR EVA FOR YOUR COMMENT. YES, THIS IS A TRUE STORY THAT TOOK PLACE ONCE IN MY LIFE. SO SAD. SOME THINGS IN LIFE WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER NO MATTER WHAT WE DO. EVEN NOW I LOOK AT THE SITUATION AND SEE NO WAY I COULD HAVE SAVED OUR MARRIAGE NOR HIM. GOD BLESS YOU. LOVE BRENDA

Lovely poem, Brenda. After all the twirling on the floor, sometimes one can no longer lead and the other can no longer follow because the tune has changed.
As Don Quixote did, I too, tilt at windmills!

O how sad, but true Brenda. You wished every story could be a "Happy Ever After;" but realistically, it can't always be that way. So glad, even though you have a happy ending without him, nevertheless, you have a happy ending. Thank You Lord!!!

Well, I'm sorry about the final outcome Brenda, but I still love this poem, very well written and very poetic. You did excellent on this one. Hugs and blessings.
