IN SILENCE I WAIT
I sit here in the silence, listening to the clock.
Slowly the hands move with each tick-tock.
Minute-by-minute this whole year has rolled on
And too soon 2011 will be another year gone.
With all I’ve been through in each day’s activity
I am most often asked how can I just simply “be”.
I have surely found that it has been my attitude
That has carried me along—it’s one of gratitude.
I am grateful when I awaken after a night’s rest.
I can give to that new day only my very best.
The gift of family and friends leave me so awed
And for them I thank my Heavenly Father God.
When I walk in the desert so barren and brown
I’m thankful for the sunshine as it pours down.
I am pleased to observe the seasonal change
And be surrounded by the vast mountain range.
I welcome newness of life in the desert trees
And feel the refreshing of a morning breeze.
In thanksgiving I can freely lift up my prayers
And the burden of others I can help to share.
Ah yes! The days and the months flew by fast.
I’m appreciative for the memories that will last.
‘Tis true some tasks this year put me to the test;
Yet in my heart I know that I truly did my best.
When I look in the mirror at a smile on my face
I’ll know it was put there by His blessed Grace.
The clock now strikes midnight and I give a cheer!
To myself I say, “May 2012 be a Happy New Year!”
