THAT CRITTER IN MY JEANS

That Critter in my Jeans

Kassi so enjoyed helpin’ Nana do the washin’, which was fine.
She’d convinced Nana to let her hang the beddin’ out on the line.
While the man-made dryer worked great, Kassi could even tell
the difference between ‘em; how she loved that sun-dried smell.

When Nana wasn’t lookin’, Kassi’d hang up her own jeans, too.
Mattered not to her they got sun-faded and didn’t look brand new!
Actually, truth be known, Kassi preferred her bluejeans well-used;
those Nana got at the thrift stores, Kassi not once e’er refused.

‘Twas late in the winter, gettin’ nigh unto time for it to be spring
when Kassi hung out the beddin’ ‘n this time two pairs of jeans.
In the warmth of that sunshine, it did not take long for things to dry.
When takin’ down the beddin’, in her jeans somethin’ caught her eye.

Backin’ away most quietly ‘n to ranchhand Rowdy she quickly ran.
“Hurry up! Bring your camera! Come, Rowdy, as fast as you can!”
Rowdy dropped what he was doin’; he did as Kassi had asked.
He knew Kassi had her reasons when she’d put him to the task.

Standin’ by the clothes line, Kassi pointed at her jeans--one pair;
inside ‘em, Rowdy snapped pictures of two eyes he saw there.
Lookin’ back at Rowdy ‘n Kassi, most assuredly he did peer.
That little masked bandit absolutely showed not an ounce of fear.

Rowdy unpinned Kassi’s bluejeans, holdin’ ‘em with utmost care.
The two drove into Mac’s office, with him this bundle to share.
As Vet Mac unwrapped that wild critter, he looked at its tiny size.
Mac felt that it’d been orphaned ‘n that was not to his surprise.

To him, “Can we keep ‘em” were the words that she did plead.
From off his shelf of books, Mac handed one for Kassi to read.
Vet Mac knew that without some help, this little ‘coon could die.
It was with their willin’ hearts, to save him, they’d all surely try.

In the days that followed, Bandit, with help, did grow ‘n thrive
Vet Mac gave the necessary injections to help keep him alive.
Kassi did learn about raccoons ‘n her empathy as a child;
yet sometime, someday soon, Bandit would return to the wild.

I am glad you liked Kassi's story about the little critter in her jeans.....Kassi was born in 1983 and at the time in the book's story, she was 10....but a very precocious 10-year old! She was a fun character and was always asking "why".......keep being blessed Eva........KayD

LOL...now, I wonder why I love this one so much ???? Kassi was a girl after my own heart. You know, Kay, that I've had my share of carin' fer wee, wild critters. It's a blessing from God, for sure, and even though I've had some very sad losses, there have been the most ultimate wins !! Harry being the most recent. I haven't seen him now for quite a while, but hope the spring will bring him back again. I just adored this poem about the baby raccoon !!

Loving you always, Linner !!! :D :lol: :wink: :wink:
Always be kind and fair; it all comes back to you in time ! Image

Linner: Being the only child in the book, Kassi kept the adults on their toes......she was a favorite character and many years later in her adulthood, she not only got a degree in business but also one in nursing and took over management of the Fine Pine Cabin Guest Ranch, turning it into a respite for the elderly. And she so enjoyed the out-of-doors and all the critters, often keeping Vet Mac busy with her finds and questions. Am glad you enjoyed and identified with the write....blessings for a beautiful day.......KayD
