OUT OF THE MUD BOG - A STORY/POEM

Postby hisheart » Mon May 14, 2012 10:42 am

Hey, Everyone!

This is a very different venue for me. I've written story/poems once or twice before but have never been brave enough to post one. Well, this one is so unique for me, that I thought I'd like to have your input on what you think of it. I'll appreciate your help!

OUT OF THE MUD BOG

Each day I begin with a time of prayer,
And I try to spend time in His word everyday.
But today I felt uneasy about things,
So I got down on my knees to pray.

God told me I needed a new pair of boots!
I was confused but I asked no questions of Him.
He told me just where to go to get those boots,
Just the type I’d need, so my work could begin.

He took me to a regular store,
But it was one that I’d never seen.
I went inside to look around,
And I wondered if I was having a dream.

But I quickly discovered that it was not that,
As I heard God’s Voice once more.
He told me to look fast because there wasn’t much time.
So I got a basket and started the tour.

Remembering that I should start everything with prayer,
I stopped to pray right where I stood.
In my prayer I asked for forgiveness and help,
Lord, I am ready now…..So, please help me do what I should.

Sometimes the act of obedience is what our test is,
More than the thing that God sent you to do.
He needs to know if He can trust us,
If He has a job for us, will He be able to use ME or YOU?

This was not the kind of place you go to find,
A variety of different types of boots.
It was, however, quite interesting and unique,
Because it had a little bit of everything you’d use.

As I looked around I finally saw the section,
That God had sent me to see.
But in this place there were only two types of boots.
I was confused but God, again, spoke to me.

He said, "Fair Child, you have a choice to make!
Which pair of boots is the right one for you?
Do you want the boots that hurt your feet but look good?
Their only purpose is to hurt & look good, in everything you do."

"The things that this world tells you are fulfilling in life,
Are the things that will actually lead you astray.
You’ve asked Me to show you how to serve Me your best.
So, listen to My Voice and always do what I say."

Now the next thing He said was to check the other pair.
They were not fashionable or handsome leather, but of a more sturdy type.
They were not fancy to look at or anything special.
But looked durable and if they got nasty, you'd have no cause to gripe.

They were a work boot that really could help me,
With any type of real work that I might need to do.
God said, “The choice is yours, so study to be wise.
The HOLY SPIRIT, is right there with you."

Sometimes a Christian finds himself stuck up to his neck,
In predicaments because we don’t understand.
But if you listen to God’s promptings, you’ll have the proper tools,
To get out of the mud bogs and back up on solid ground.

Always listen to the instructions God gives you,
For any job He has assigned just for you.
You see, He teaches us in so many ways,
And, today, I’ve already learned something new.

I bought those boots because there was a lesson for me.
The choice I made I would never regret.
And when I looked at those boots, they were just my size,
Which is also something I’ll never forget.

When God asks you to prepare the Way,
It is because He is trusting you with something to do.
And He wants us to be ready to do what He asks,
Or the Mud Bog will not let you get through.

I didn’t notice the rain outside,
As I’d been in that unfamiliar store.
But it was pouring and I thought I had purchased these boots
Just in time, but still, I had no idea what for??

A Voice spoke to me and said, “Put the Boots on NOW,”
And get out there because there is trouble ahead!"
So, I jumped into my truck knowing not where to go,
But I sped off anyway, just as He said.

Just down the road I saw the school bus in Blackberry Creek,
And the water was really flowing fast.
I got the chain out and I waded through the water.
My feet stayed dry and helped me reach the bus at last.

The boots helped me get a grip in the rushing water,
And I felt God’s strength pushing me along.
Soon I was able to attach the chain to that school bus,
And the children prayed as God helped me get them safely back on the road where they belonged.

Inside the bus, there were many children who were happy,
As they realized that it was God who had prepared the Way.
Everyone clapped as I went inside the bus to see them.
It was an adventure that would be heard many times into future days.

The next week I was invited to come tell the story,
To the children at the school and how God saved their lives.
I showed them those boots and we said a prayer of thanks,
And I was not the only one with tears in my eyes.

What if I had not listened to God speaking that morning?
Would it have still turned out just the same way?
I don’t think it would have because God had chosen me,
To be the one that He trusted to do the rescue that day.

There is just one more thing that I want to share,
Because I’ll never understand how this ever could be.
But when I went back to that store to thank those storekeepers,
For having those boots that were right there waiting for me,

I drove around and around until I finally gave up.
And there wasn't one living soul nor a store to be found.
I know in my heart that God made it all just for that day,
So that our children’s feet could be returned to solid ground.

When God speaks to you, be careful to listen,
Because there may be a great lesson that is meant only for you.
Go straight to the task even if you don’t understand it,
If you listen to God, He will carry you though.

As old Grandpa Wiggins walked away from the school house,
He whispered a prayer and He thanked God for that day,
That he was the one that was sent to that heavenly store,
And for the "special" boots that helped him save the children that way.

The mud bogs of life wont be able to hurt you.
If you trust in God, He’ll keep you safe, too.
You will never lose if your faith and trust don't fail you.
Just remember to pray that you'll choose the right boots.

Dear Karen, this speaks volumes to me. The line below stuck out in bold print to me, as I was just asking this question yesterday to myself. I so wanted the "Cute," and "Darling" shoes, but I had to get the comfortable, so had to get the tacky looking ones. But hey! I'm gettin' me some rhinestones and dressin' em' up a bit, and they'll be cute too. Not to be vain, but just coz I like, purty.

"Do you want the boots that hurt your feet but look good?
Their only purpose is to hurt & look good, in everything you do."

What a terrific poem/prose/lesson/profoundness. Thank you for sharing this. Hope you do more often. -Dawn

Thank you, Eva,

Your opinion means a lot to me and I am so glad that you were blessed by this. When that title popped into my mind, I just couldnt imagine what it could possibly mean. When I started writing it, God stratigically gave me each word and it continued to just come together. I would write it for a while and then I'd forget about it. Then I'd come accross it again and write a little more. I had it around for about a year, I guess. I finished it up about a month or so ago. I just got stuck on the last few verses and a couple of days ago, it was time to get finished and God gave me the words, and I was amazed myself. Who would think that "OUT OF THE MUD BOG" would turn out to have such a lesson in it??

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read it. I appreciate your thoughts on it.

Love you,
Karen

Hey Dawnzy!

I cant believe that you have been hunting for pretty shoes, too. This is the truth, I have just got a couple of new dresses, etc. to wear to church. But, I have such horrible feet that I can't wear anything but those big old clunky shoes that make a pretty feminine outfit, just go to the dogs, ya know? I just want something that looks pretty and feminine but because my toes are all stacked on top of each other, it is hard to find anything with a round enough toe because they ( my feet) are so bad. I'm glad that the poem made a connection with you because of YOUR feet!

You know, the decisions we make do make a difference in just how successfully we serve our Lord. I would rather have on boots or shoes that would help me help someone who needs the Lord than something that hurt my feet and kept me FROM serving Him. It is an interesting story and I am so glad that you found it and really got the meaning! God bless you, Dawn.

Hey, I like your idea about "blinging" my ugly shoes to make them "purty". I wants me some o'dem purty shoes, too! Love you,

Karen

Buttercup, this is totally AWESOME! (I got interrupted while reading it, Mother called, so I listened to her for about thirty minutes, LOL! She wants her peony's transplanted to the other end of the house by the garage door, she has it planned for Jeff and I come fall,   ) anyway, I couldn't wait to get back here to finish reading this amazingly touching story poem. You are a master at these.

What really touched my heart most, is when you said God often may just ask us to do something to see if we will obey. Abraham immediately came to mind. I will never forget this, Karen. God uses you every day to touch my heart in ways you may never know.

Thank you, God. thank you for using our friend Karen to touch my soul, to plant seeds of wonder and goodness, and Lord, please always keep my heart moist and rich, so that all the goodness you use others for planting will be fruitful so you can use it in anyway you wish. Lord may I always live up to your expectations of me, let me hear your voice, and step up eagerly to apply for the tests you place in my path. Thank you for the boots to walk through life, that keep our feet on solid ground, and thank you Lord, for Karen Bunker!!!!

Dear Sweet Pokey,

You are too kind to me and when I write something that is unusual for me, I always want to see how it is received. You are so important and I thank you for being so complimentary. For some strange reason, this just came out of the blue and I had no idea what the title even meant. God gave me that first and it was probably at least a week or so before I was given anything else. I just kinda wrote on it in spurts and every time I gave it up, I wondered where this thing was going. I was interested in it. It kinda keeps you on the edge of the seat. All I know is that I had no idea where it was going to end up.

Pokey, you have the heart of Mary, the Mother of Christ. She was so filled with love and so encouraging to Him and was so special, just like you. The prayer you wrote was a true blessing to me. We have been friends for a long time. I look forward to eternity so we can see each other all the time. Thanks for all your kindnesses. You are a precious one of a kind jewel! I love you so much!

Thanks to you, Linda 56. I hope you are doing well and it is nice to hear from you. I am glad that you enjoyed the story. It was kindof a different type of venue for me, but I enjoyed seeing it develop. I think he was trying to show me that He can teach me lessons in this way, too. In a way, it was a bit like a parable. It can teach a lot of people a lot of different things.

Thanks for your visit. I appreciate you so much! God bless you.

Brilliant poem Karen. WOW what an awesome story. You show how God has a personal relationship with each of us and a plan for each of us, that is different and somtimes unique, that is exept for what we do before we take the time to listen and to follow through on his words, and that is first of al to pray. Life may not always afford us with the fanciest pair of boots as we walk this journey together, but they will be the best boots for the trip. What a video this will make, and I know that many will benefit by these awesome words, even if it takes me a week. I love it, and I love you even more. In fact I love all of my friends. Thank you for sharing this, I will post the poem on our family website if you don't mind. My family can certainly use these words of wisdom right now. God bless.
Live today as if it were your last, for tomorrow it will be your past, but live it with peace in mind, joy to find, and for God divine!

I love this Karen, what an awesome lesson wonderfully put to rhyme, brilliantly done once again young lady, can't wait to enjoy another! I am always finding pennies on the ground, I always pick them up & put them in the console of my truck! When I find one I always say Thank You Jesus & then in my heart I ask Him to bless the soul who lost it, sometimes God even uses pennies to lead us to people in need, God is always teaching us & working thru us, He has always used YOU in a mighty way, you are one of them special pennies that everyone should find!

Hello, Dear Jeff............

What a beautiful story this is about the pennies. What a wonderful thing to do, and who, but you, would think of such a wonderful thing ? If there is one thing that I have learned about God is that He never expects the "big" things from us. He just expects us to give Him our best. I think that is why the Bible says the "least of his children will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven"!

I want to thank you for taking time to read this story/poem. I have very few of these and when I woke up one morning about a year ago and the words: OUT OF THE MUD BOG were going through my head, I said, You are kidding, right, Lord? It has taken several sessions of me waiting for God to show me where this was taking me and at the end of each session, I was no further clued in than when He gave me the title. When I finally finished and went back and read the entire thing, I was awestruck like so many of us are when we see what God has done with our writings.

Thanks again, Jeff, for the wonderful story about your "console of pennies" story. The part about you saying a prayer for each person who lost it, really touched me. That is so like you. Your heart is so beautifully unique. Thanks so much for the visit.

I love you and Pokey so much!
I praise God for each of you.
You inspire me everyday.
Thanks for your faith and your blessings everyday,
Karen

Steve,

Thanks for all you kindness regarding this unusual poem. I know it is not really THAT unusual, but it is like God knew everything it was going to say and where it was going before I even had a clue! He is so awesome!!

And.........you can do anything with any of my work anytime you want to. You know more about how I write than anyone else I know, including myself. You may put it anywhere you choose..............JUST ONE THING............BE SURE TO WEAR THE RIGHT BOOTS FOR THE JOB! OK???

Thanks, Steve! You are the best! Love you!
