I want to be a friend who'll remain by your side;
When you've been knocked down by foolish pride!

I want to be a friend who'll help heal a broken heart;
When you need some encouragment for a new start!

I want to be a friend who'll hand you a tube of glue;
When you find you've become unglued from boo hoos!

I want to be a friend who'll be with you to the end;
When you think your path's turned a wrong bend!

I want to be a friend who'll give advice that's good;
When you need to hear the truth of could and would!

I want to be a friend who'll paint the sky all sunny
When you need to laugh, and go find things funny!

I want to be a friend that keeps cookies and cakes;
When you need something sweet, and can't bake!

I want to be a friend that holds your umbrella open;
When raindrops are falling as you've been moping!

I want to be a friend that grows you pretty flowers;
When you need a bouquet of love to be empowered!

I want to be a friend that will remain yet by your side;
When you stumble, to catch you as you slip and slide!

I want to be a friend that's gonna hold on really tight;
When you have bad dreams in the middle of the night!

I want to be a friend that wants you to always know;
When you're hanging from a branch, I'll never let go!

True friends surely are worth more than gold...and at the price of gold today, that speaks volumes of their worth! We must stick with our friends in the bad times, along with the good times!.....one to always be by their side!

I liked your remark about being a friend that is worth more than gold so much, that I have picked it up to use in these thank you comments.....we can never say thank you enough to those who are dear to our hearts!! They keep my heart ticking on, and make it a ripper day....(see, I remember).
You also do so much to encourage all of us here on the forum!

I haven't come to Hugs in such a long time that I miss you all so very much. I miss the poems and the happenings here. This is simply a lovely poem. It's as encouraging as the poet herself. You'll only know who your friends really are especially when you fall and need a helping hand. I've experienced "true" friendship in this way. I've seen the kind of friendship in you that will only come through God. I've been blessed to be a friend of yours and I know that our friendship will remain for all eternity even with the distance in it. The love of God is what enables me to have a heart to be any kind of friend at all! To be an encourager, to be a good friend, is because of the love that He first showed me! I only try to pass on what is in my heart, and to be there as I am needed!
