100 Years on the Lincoln Highway
Before the Interstate Highway System, before famed Route 66, before highways were even numbered, there was one road that started it all, one road that changed America forever: The Lincoln Highway. “100 Years on the Lincoln Highway” is the story of the first coast to coast automobile road in the United States and its impact on Wyoming. I used to eat a lot of dinners at the L-Way Cafe in ISU’s dinky town while attending ISU in the ’60s.

The Lincoln Highway runs through Ames, Iowa, home of Iowa State University, where I went to college. While the actual highway runs through the southern part of Ames, the road through the ISU campus town is called Lincoln Way.
