Take My Hand, Precious Lord – Jim Reeves
Jim Reeves‘ version of the song may be one of the best known of all. It was released as the ‘B’ side of his hit single “This World is Not My Home” in 1965.
“Take My Hand, Precious Lord” is a gospel hymn that has become a classic in the world of Christian music. The song was written by Thomas A. Dorsey, often referred to as the “Father of Black Gospel Music.” Dorsey composed the song in the 1930s during a period of personal tragedy when he lost his wife in childbirth, and their infant son also died shortly after. He turned to music as a source of comfort and expression during this difficult time.
The song’s lyrics reflect a deep sense of longing for guidance and support from the divine in moments of trouble and suffering. It is a heartfelt prayer for God to lead, guide, and protect the singer through life’s trials and tribulations.
Jim Reeves, a popular American country and gospel singer, recorded a rendition of “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” during his career. Jim Reeves was known for his smooth and mellow singing style, and his version of the song is considered one of the most notable interpretations. His recording has resonated with many listeners and contributed to the song’s enduring popularity.
The hymn has been covered by numerous artists and has become a staple in the repertoire of gospel and Christian musicians over the years. It has been used in various church services and has been a source of inspiration and comfort for countless individuals facing challenges and seeking solace in their faith. “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” is a timeless classic that continues to touch the hearts of those who hear it.

This is a great old hymn that takes me back a bunch of years. However, please note: There is a wrong word in the captions. At about 1.45 I believe the song says, “where the Lamb is the light” but your on-screen captions show “lamp is the light.” Please correct. Thank you.

PRECIOUS LORD LEAD ME HOME, WHEN MY LIFE ON THIS EARTH IS GONE. PLEASE LORD, DO NOT LEAVE ME BEHIND. I CANNOT BARE THE THOUGHT THAT I WOULD BE ALONE, PRECIOUS LORD PLEASE TAKE ME HOME. I WANT TO LIVE ON HEAVENS SHORE, NEVER FEELING PAIN AND HURT ANYMORE. THIS EARTH IS NOT MY HOME, PLEASE GOD, TAKE ME HOME. I WILL KNOCK ON HEAVENS DOOR, PLEASE GOD, ANSWER IT ONCE MORE. I DON’T WANT TO BE ALONE, I WANT HEAVEN TO BE MY HOME. PLEASE GOD, HEAR MY CRY, PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME HERE TOO DIE. DEAR LORD I KNOW YOU DIED FOR MY SINS, PLEASE OPEN HEAVEN’S DOOR, PLEASE LET ME IN ON HEAVEN’S SHORE. I CANNOT BARE LIVING ON THIS EARTH, WITHOUT YOU GOD, WHAT WOULD MY LIFE BE WORTH? TAKE ME HOME PRECIOUS LORD, PLEASE GIVE ME A HOME ON HEAVEN’S SHORE, THEN I WANT BE ALONE ANYMORE.

Take our hands Precious Lord, Lead us Home. Forgive us of our sins, take us to Heaven and take us in. Let us through to live in Your Promise Land. Take our souls and cleanse them of all sins and evils we have done, and Bless us Lord from this day on. We will never be happy without your Love, if we cannot live in Heaven above.
Take our hands Precious Lord, Lead us Home. WITH ALL YOUR LOVE, WE RETURN TO YOU. LORD, YOU ARE OUR SAVIOUR, AND NO OTHER WILL TAKE US FROM YOU. IF HEAVEN IS NOT OUR HOME, LORD WHAT WILL WE DO. WE NEVER WANT TO SEE hell ONLY HEAVEN, AND YOU. PRAISE THE LORD. AMEN AND AMEN.
I LOVE JESUS CHRIST, AND ALL OF YOU.
