Love the old country music. I was blessed to see Hank Williams Jr. singing at Molson Park in Barrie Ontario Canada, where so many country singers performed. I enjoyed his performance as much as his Fathers.
One time, many years ago, I made several trips to Nashvlille, (Tennessee), seeking fame and fortune, as countless’ others did! In the 1970’s….I have long since gave up on that endeavor….On one of my trips, on a Sunday Afternoon, I was walking around downtown Nashville, not too far away, from the Historic “RYMAN AUTITORIUM, the historic home of the World Famous, Grand Ole Opry! It was a antique car place, of historic vechicles! I found a very special car there..It was very un-usual vechicle. The sign read something like this: HANK WILLIAMS CADILLAC*. Yes….Not only was it one of many he may have owned, it was the very last one he rode in! Yes, The one he died in! I already had the knowledge that he passed away, in the back seat, on the way to another show, he was seheduled to appear on! Well, as fate would have it, no one else was there that day, only the guy running the place! There was a big rope all around the car! He saw my extreme interest in the car, and took down the ropes, and told me I could even get in the car! Well, being a “Country Person” as I was, he did not have to tell me twice about this! I immediately got behind the steering wheel, and sat down. And looked out of the windshield. The thought crossed my mind, Hank Died in the back seat! Just for what-ever reason, or no reason really, I turned and looked at the back seat! Remember, I was full of dreams and goals I never did achieve..Welll, Hank wasn’t there, as I knew he would not be, but I just had to do this! BEFORE I GOT OUT OF HANK WILLIAMS’S CADALLIC, some-one took a photo of me, behind the steering wheel, to prove , on my camera, so I could prove all this was true…..Guess what? I haven’ t found that photo yet! But I know I had it processed and in good condition! If anyone reads this, you are welcome to write to me, at my name and address below…..Thank You for your time….and GOD BLESS YOU.*
Mr. Harrison, what an amazing experience! Hank Williams was a true country singer. A tragic loss. You have your good memories and you never know……that picture might pop up when you least expect it. Wouldn’t that be grand? Thanks for sharing.
Actually, Albert and Barbara, here is a biographer’s conclusion: “The result of the original autopsy indicated that Williams died of a heart attack. Author Colin Escott concluded in his book Hank Williams: The Biography, that the cause of death was heart failure caused by the combination of alcohol, morphine and chloral hydrate”.
I can add, from my memory of newspaper accounts at the time, that he was found in the back seat of his Cadillac, parked off of the roadway. So Albert, you have a partial answer and Barbara is simply misinformed.

He died in a car crash, not from drugs.

it is hard to believe that a singer with nice voice could take his life using drugs
