We’ll Meet Again – Vera Lynn
“We’ll Meet Again” is a 1939 British song made famous by singer Vera Lynn with music and lyrics composed and written by Ross Parker and Hughie Charles. The song is one of the most famous songs of the Second World War era, and resonated with soldiers going off to fight and their families and sweethearts. The assertion that “we’ll meet again” is optimistic, as many soldiers did not survive to see their loved ones again.

It is such a pity that today’s society (with all their unproven justification, bickering , constant dissatisfaction) cannot take a moment in their lives to appreciate the sacrifices make for them by the “greatest generation” of WWII as well as all the ensuing wars that continue to prevail because of their inadequacies particularly during a time when the world needs love for it and each other.

In 1943 I joined the Malitia Home Front Military in Squamish. We were organized in case the Japanes attacked the west coast. The training took place on weekends as army officers came from Vancouver to train us. I still love those old songs as they bring back many memories. We are truly blessed to be able to live in this part of the world where we enjoy so much freedom!

I remember this song very well and sang it too. My brother was in the submarine service and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He spent 55 months on active patrol in the Pacific. I was born in 1925 so remember very much of the war and patriotic songs Also the blue and gold star flags draped in all windows of homes from which a young man or woman served in the armed forces.
