Classical Gas – Glen Campbell
“Classical Gas” is a guitar instrumental piece composed by Mason Williams in 1968. The song was popularized by Glen Campbell, who recorded a version of it that became a hit in 1968. Campbell’s version of “Classical Gas” features a distinctive acoustic guitar riff, accompanied by a full orchestra.
The song’s title is a play on words, as “gas” was a slang term for a hit record at the time. “Classical Gas” is considered a significant piece of music in the guitar world and has been covered by many artists over the years.
Glen Campbell’s version of “Classical Gas” is widely regarded as one of his signature songs and is often included in his greatest hits compilations. The song was a commercial success, reaching number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and winning three Grammy Awards in 1969.
