Colour My World – Chicago

Released in 1970 on the band’s second studio album, Chicago II, “Colour My World” remains one of Chicago’s most beloved and recognizable ballads. Written and sung by the late Terry Kath, the song is best known for its tender melody and unforgettable flute solo performed by Walter Parazaider.

Unlike many of Chicago’s brassy, jazz-rock anthems, “Colour My World” is soft, intimate, and romantic. Its simple, heartfelt lyrics and gentle arrangement made it a favorite at weddings and school dances throughout the 1970s and beyond. The song was not released as a standalone commercial single at the time but gained significant radio airplay as the B-side to “Make Me Smile,” which helped cement its popularity.

Though it did not chart independently on the Billboard Hot 100, “Colour My World” became one of Chicago’s signature songs through enduring album sales and radio rotation. Over the decades, it has stood as a beautiful contrast to the band’s more energetic hits, showcasing the emotional depth that helped define Chicago’s early sound.

More than fifty years later, “Colour My World” continues to resonate – a gentle reminder of love expressed in its purest, simplest form.
