times were very hard back then, but they had each other and a loving family, to look back at the pics. they were happy, not like the life is of today, the whole world seems to have gone crazy now, cannot turn back times, of the good life, we have to live the life others have given us,

My parents, grandmother, and great aunt also entertained us with stories of the depression era. Grandfather worked for the WPA, so they had a little more than most. Three generations of the family shared the house, also housed a teen-aged cousin. Uncle was an electrician so the house was electrified but only had plumbing in the basement and first floor. The basement also had a root cellar and storm cellar. Grandmother still lived in this house in the 1960s. Wish I’d listened to the stories more closely. All of these family members have long since passed away.

This made me think of my mother and grandparents, she was 10 years old in 1933 and my grandparents had her and 5 boys, they lived in Colorado and often fed their family and neighbors as they were considered secure in that my grandfather walked 5 miles to and from work every day and made $1.00 a day, while most of their neigbors were either unemployed or made a lot less. It was a time however, that family meant something and many would not have survived had they not stuck together.

“Difficult times in American history…”! Should give Great Britain a thought or two – equally as hard, austere and difficult – plus we had Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich dropping bombs on us in London and the Battle of Britain when we fought and stood alone against the Nazi regime from Europe. That is until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour of course… the rest is history.
