Duke of Earl – Gene Chandler
“Duke of Earl” is a 1962 US number-one song, originally by Gene Chandler. It is the best known of Chandler’s songs, and he subsequently dubbed himself ‘The Duke of Earl’. The song was penned by Chandler, Bernice Williams, and Earl Edwards. This song was a 2002 inductee into the Grammy Hall of Fame. It has also been selected by The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. What did you think? Still one of the best songs (groups). I no longer listen to the radio and what passes for music today. Just put in my CDs and I am happy! So many of the groups back then have contributed to the generation of GOOD music. Unfortunately, they did not get the recognition because of their color….! Shameful. My first “celebrity” to see was Fats Domino in Washington DC – 1956. What a night!
