Fraulein – Bobby Helms
“Fraulein” is a classic country song originally recorded by Bobby Helms. It was released in 1957 and became one of his signature songs. The song was written by Lawton Williams, who was inspired by his time stationed in Germany while serving in the military.
The song tells the story of a soldier who falls in love with a German girl, referred to as “Fraulein,” which is a German term of address for an unmarried woman or a young lady. The soldier reflects on the memories of their time together and expresses his longing for her, even though they are now separated.
“Fraulein” became a major hit for Bobby Helms, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and staying there for four weeks. It also crossed over to the pop charts, reaching No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s popularity has endured over the years, and it remains a beloved classic in the country music genre.
