It’s All In The Game – Tommy Edwards
“It’s All in the Game” was a 1958 hit for Tommy Edwards. Carl Sigman composed the lyrics in 1951 to a wordless 1911 composition entitled “Melody in A Major,” written by Charles Dawes, later Vice President of the United States under Calvin Coolidge. It is the only No. 1 pop single to have been co-written by a U.S. Vice President or winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Do you remember listening to this song way back when? I graduated high school in 1959. This was very popular and was played at our dances. Ah, yes. Sweet, sweet memories that I choose to recall.

I love the song but, it brings back some terrible memories. Our college football team was undefeated going into the last game of the year. We were going undefeated unroll our rivals scored the go ahead touchdown with under two minutes to go. We received the kickoff and started moving down the field. I caught a a pass on the last play of the game but could not make it into the end Zone for a win. My roommate, a 310 pound tackle and I rode home after the game for the weekend and the song played at least 4-5 times during the 4 hour ride. We kicked the dash in every time the song played! No problem, Bobby’s dad had a Chevy dealership and we just took another car back to college on Sunday evening. What a way to remember such a beautiful song. This was 62 years Avon and I still remember it like it was yesterday. However, I do still love the song, just not this particular memory.

One of my all time tunes to end the evening with my favorite lady friend…brings back cherished moments. Would like to dial back the years, maybe 1962, for just one weekend.!!!
