It’s Magic – Doris Day
“Doris Day – It’s Magic” is a song from the 1949 musical romantic comedy film “Romance on the High Seas.” The film was Day’s debut as an actress and also starred Jack Carson, Janis Paige, and Don DeFore.
In the movie, Day plays a young woman named Georgia Garrett who wins a trip to Rio de Janeiro and goes on the cruise ship to escape her fiancé who she suspects is cheating on her. On the cruise, she meets a handsome singer named Elvira Kent (Jack Carson), who mistakes her for a wealthy socialite. Georgia goes along with the deception and takes on the identity of Elvira, leading to a series of misunderstandings and romantic entanglements.
The song “It’s Magic” was written by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn and was performed by Day in the film. The song became one of Day’s signature tunes and was a hit on the music charts. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song and became a top 10 hit in the United States.
The success of “Romance on the High Seas” launched Day’s acting career and she went on to star in numerous other musicals and romantic comedies, becoming one of the most popular actresses of the 1950s and 1960s. She also continued to record music and had several hit songs throughout her career.

. . . and yes! I am back. For a goodly time this time. — As for Doris (Kapper Kauf) Day. – She, without a doubt, was the best singer (and personality) to come down the pike . . . Period!
My Sister, Nore Jean and I went to The Cincinnati Union Station to sneak a peek of Miss Day when she arrived for a visit with her hometown relation and friends. – Surprisingly, she and her associate stopped to greet the two of us (we had never ever been close to any celebrity, alone a movie ‘star/singer’) . . . yet, as it turned out . . . certainly my sister and I had a surprised time with Doris and her associate before they were picked up . . . to visit with relation (Price Hill area of Cincinnati, Ohio).
In short, Miss Doris Day was most quinine in stopping on the railroad walkway (platform) to clasp our hands extended to greet a welcome back to her in her hometown. – Truly, I and my sister will never forget that ‘unsuspected’ turn of events – especially with a noted personality such as Doris Day.
For the record: my sister, Nora and Doris, have left this world.
I loved my sister Nora . . .
and we both admired (loved) Doris Day.
Come May 25th, 2025, yours truly will be 93.
