I’m so Lonesome I Could Cry – Hank Williams
“I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” is a classic country music song written and performed by Hank Williams. It was released in 1949 and has since become one of his most beloved and enduring songs.
The song features Williams’ trademark storytelling style, with poignant lyrics about loneliness and heartbreak. The chorus includes the famous lines, “I’m so lonesome I could cry / I could cry, I could cry, I could cry.”
Despite its melancholy tone, “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” has been covered by numerous artists over the years and has become a classic in the country music canon. Some of the most notable cover versions include those by Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Al Green.
One interesting fact about the song is that it was reportedly inspired by Williams’ own personal struggles with loneliness and isolation. Williams was known for his troubled personal life, which included struggles with alcoholism and marital problems.
“I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” is widely regarded as one of the greatest country music songs of all time. In 2003, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in recognition of its lasting cultural significance.

Hank Williams was one of a kind. So gifted yet so troubled. It’s so sad we lost him way too young. I loved every song he wrote and sang. He left us with such a beautiful legacy of his songs. RIP Hank Williams

My brother liked to sing and play Hank Williams songs. I learned to enjoy country music when I was just a child as my brother was 12 years older than me.
