More Than I Can Say – Leo Sayer
“More Than I Can Say” is a popular song originally recorded by Leo Sayer, an English singer-songwriter, in 1980. The song was written by Sonny Curtis and Jerry Allison and was originally released by Curtis in 1959 as “I Can’t Say Goodbye.” However, it was Leo Sayer’s version that became the most well-known and successful.
“More Than I Can Say” was included on Leo Sayer’s album titled “Living in a Fantasy” and was released as a single in 1980. The song became a massive hit, reaching the top of the charts in several countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. It also reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.
The song features a catchy melody and heartfelt lyrics that express the narrator’s feelings of love and devotion towards someone special. It is a sentimental ballad with a blend of pop and rock elements, characterized by Sayer’s distinctive vocal style. The song’s production, with its prominent use of synthesizers and a memorable guitar riff, contributed to its success.
Leo Sayer’s version of “More Than I Can Say” became one of his signature songs and remains one of his most recognized and beloved hits. The song’s popularity has endured over the years and has been covered by various artists, including Bobby Vee, Sammy Kershaw, and Cliff Richard, among others.
Leo Sayer has had a successful career as a singer-songwriter since the 1970s, with numerous hits including “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing,” “When I Need You,” and “Thunder in My Heart.” He is known for his distinctive voice, energetic stage presence, and a fusion of different musical styles ranging from pop and rock to disco and soul.
While “More Than I Can Say” is one of Leo Sayer’s most well-known songs, he has continued to release music and perform live concerts throughout his career. His contributions to the music industry have earned him critical acclaim and multiple awards, including Grammy Awards and Brit Awards.

Oh, a favorite that I haven’t heard in a long time! So wonderful to listen to the songs of that time. Lyrics that had meaning. So not like what we hear today. Many “artists” today just throw words together that make absolutely no sense. You are lucky if you can even hear the words – on second thought, best if you don’t hear the words!!
