I use to sing this song back then when I was in High School. J.F. Kennedy had just gotten the U.S. involved in the Vietnam conflict by sending what was called advisers to Vietnam, but in fact, they were soldiers. And finally in 1968 I too was drafted, and after one year here in the states, I was Vietnam bound. I never had time to worry about being lonely though.

Hi I also love the oldies. I was a teen ager at the time this song came out. Many tears fell back as a teen ager thinking that every boy you dated would be the one and only. Thank goodness that did not happen. My daughter, as a teen was crying as her boyfriend broke up with her. She asked how to make the pain go away. I told her that there is no medicine I could give her—–if I could I would bottle it for all people with a broken hearts.Time will heal and you must try and move on as there is someone out there waiting for a beautiful girl like you.
This song is about so many soldiers who are fighting to keep up free, and it breaks my heart, knowing just how lonely it must be for all the brave ones who fight and give their lives for us. May God Bless and keep them safe and come home soon.
