I’m one of the “old”. I don’t see the wrinkles, the bent over walk, I choose to remember the young unblemished face, the tall walk; oh! the memories of yesterday. I know my time is drawing near, I strive to be closer to God although I read something and by the time I put it down I already forgotten what I read. Some days I feel this is my last but others I feel I will be here forever. “Old” just an old lady striving to be a little more loving, a little more patient and showing my love for my fellow man.

WOW! A beautiful reminder of the importance of each second of the day. I see the days passing so swiftly now and long for length of day and time but realize each of our days were numbered when we were born. I am grateful for each day I wake and vow to live it to the fullest. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful poem to inspire me today.

Growing old Is just part of life. You can grow old with grace. You can complain but time will not listen . Time will just keep going as It always has. I thank the good Lord every day when I wake. I’m In the Winter of my life and that’s okay. I don’t think much about death for I’m to busy living. When death comes then It comes but between now and then I’m content just to live————-

Old age comes to those who live long enough. Some greet it with joy and grace even keeping beauty of face whereas others moan and groan that their hair is gone and eyes which once sparkled with glee grow dull as can be. Lord, grant me the grace to not worry about my face but open my heart with delight as each new day comes to light. I am now what some would say is old but I face each new day with a slower pace but my heart is still warm with the love I feel which is gloriously real.

Dear Joyce, Your dear neighbor is in her glorified young body enjoying her family and freinds who pasted on in eternity. Have peace. it is real. My entire family of mother’s sisters, my 3 dearest aunts died in a row in 6 months, 2 years ago. They visit me occasionally as a body in in beautiful, reassuring dreams. They were all born near one another, lived close and died close. My grandchild is my first to my one older son. 2 other cousins who had not become grandparents and the children of these lost aunts, became grand parents too with me. Oct. Nov an Dec in a row again, just like our family.

This really touched my heart. We just lost a dear neighbor who was 95 years old . We live on the beach on the East coast and they had a private bench for sitting and the one scene reminded me so much of them sitting looking out at the ocean. We never know what lies ahead from one day to the next, no matter how old or how young we may be so we must make the best of every day we are here on this beautiful earth and give Thanks to God for every gift. Especially for each of our grand children no matter how close or far away they are.

The elderly are great history books of experience, wisdom and faith we may ever know. Profound words and thoughts evolve from the minds and hearts of the elderly that we all should pay heed to. My Mother survived breast cancer and a hip replacement in her mid 80’s and lived to be 2 years shy of 100 years old. She was in my care for years, then in a nearby assisted living and then nursing home. Her journey into the past and memory of her early life became everyday conversation, where time stood still. There is such an incredible grace in aging when you have lived a good life. True values surface. Her beauty and love grew deeper for life in a child like innocense. Be gentle and don’t impose any decisions upon these delicate creatures. Babies and the elderly respond to spiritual joys. kindnesses and love are the greatest gift you may offer. Now I am a grandmother to a perfect little 11 month Angel, who is my gift from God.

I am in a field of work where I am with elderly folks daily and they never fail to amaze me. I can only hope I have their strength, courage, and willingness to share what they have experienced in their own lives when I come into those years. They have my heart, my devotion, and MY willingness to hear just one more story…They’ve taught me so much…

Just came home from visiting my mother in Ky. for several weeks…God bless her. She is so dear, nearly 82 beautiful years old and i miss her already. Yes, people are SO hurried anymore! I saw my Mom slowing down while we were together — she always takes extra time with her friends, giving them all she can and is never impatient. BUT as soon as I returned ‘up North’ to my home, someone blew their HORN at me! SO impatient… all the people ‘up North’ it seems. During the entire 5 week visit down South, I never had anyone blow their horn at me. Just an observance… why be in such a hurry people?? why? A few extra seconds could maybe save a life…who knows?

I JUST REALIZED THE OTHER DAY WHILE FOOD SHOPPING THAT SINCE I HAVE BECOME A SENIOR CITIZEN, I WALK SLOWER, BUT I SEE MORE THINGS ON THE SHELF THAT I NEVER SAW BEFORE WHEN HURRYING.
ALSO, WHEN OUTSIDE, I SEE AND HEAR CREATURES THAT I NEVER NOTICED BEFORE… I LISTEN TO PEOPLE MORE WHEN I SLOW DOWN ALSO… GOING SLOWER HAS IT’S ADVANTAGES… I DON’T GET STRESSED OUT AS I DID WHEN YOUNGER… ( OF COURSE I ACHE, BUT I DID WHEN YOUNGER, ALSO.) YES, RETIREMENT IS NOT AS BAD AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE… LET’S GO OUT IN THE BACKYARD AND WATCH NATURE, ENJOY IT AND RELAX… COME…
Blessings… Elizabeth W.

Old Age is excellently depicted and I congratulate the writer. We have to accept old age with grace, but in today’s maddening world, it is not that easy. Never lose spirits. Always dream young though you may not be alive to see that dream come true. Sometimes it appears, may not be a universal phenomenon, that older women(spouses) make the life of an old man more miserable by their stupidity and rigidity. I advise older women to be extremely careful and make their and their hubby’s life more tolerable and peaceful. I do admit that there are cases of older men troubling their older spouses.

Old age is inevitable, if one is destined to reach that phase. Youth of today do not realise that they are going to face worst experiences, healthwise or otherwise, in their twilight years of life. Hence they do not understand the plight of today’s aged who are a little better placed than their posterity. A good and beautiful poem indeed.

As long as body strength is there one is arrogant; dominates and dictates as one wishes; but when the strength comes down you are nowhere! So, indeed it is better to love as it is easier than hate and fight always with others!

How beautifully written and true… Counting our blessings and know that forgiveness is easy… How more contented we become, even through some pain… Knowing that others are worse off than we are.
I am 80 years old now and I am still learning about life. Whether you are in a wheelchair or need a cane, or just plum tuckered out or bedridden, you can still learn things… they are there waiting for you… Go for it !!!
GOD is right beside you…
