The Old Rugged Cross – Alan Jackson
“The Old Rugged Cross” is a classic Christian hymn that was written by George Bennard in 1912. The song has been performed by countless artists over the years, but one of the most well-known renditions is by country music star Alan Jackson.
Jackson’s version of “The Old Rugged Cross” was released in 2006 as part of his album, “Precious Memories.” The album features traditional hymns and gospel songs that were important to Jackson growing up in Georgia, and it was a departure from his usual country music style.
In Jackson’s version of “The Old Rugged Cross,” he sings the hymn with a simple and heartfelt sincerity that captures the emotional depth of the lyrics. The song speaks to the power of the cross as a symbol of sacrifice and redemption, and the way that faith in Jesus Christ can bring hope and healing to even the most broken of hearts.
The music video for Jackson’s version of the song features footage of a simple wooden cross set against the backdrop of a beautiful sunset, and it adds to the emotional impact of the song’s message.
Overall, Alan Jackson’s rendition of “The Old Rugged Cross” is a powerful and moving tribute to the enduring power of faith and the beauty of traditional hymns. The song has touched the hearts of many listeners and remains a beloved classic of the gospel music genre.

This is a beautiful testimony of a person who fully understands and is grateful for the Savior’s sacrifice. Praise God the Old Rugged Cross was not the end of the story. For, He is risen indeed!

So lovely, it brings to me, my childhood ,when, with my father, we sang together, with love in our hearts. I would play the violin and the precious experience would just bubble us up. He’s gone now, but I wait for the day I will see my Lord.
