Peace On Earth / Little Drummer Boy – Bing Crosby & David Bowie
“Peace on Earth / Little Drummer Boy” by Bing Crosby and David Bowie is a beloved Christmas duet from Crosby’s 1977 TV special, Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas. Initially, Bowie was reluctant to sing “Little Drummer Boy,” feeling it didn’t suit his style. To address this, a new countermelody, “Peace on Earth,” was written for him, creating a fresh, harmonious blend with Crosby’s traditional delivery.
The song was recorded on September 11, 1977, just weeks before Crosby’s passing. Despite their contrasting styles, the two singers connected well, delivering a performance that paired Crosby’s warmth with Bowie’s ethereal voice.
Released as a single in 1982, the duet became a holiday hit, reaching #3 on the UK Singles Chart. Its enduring popularity highlights the timeless appeal of bridging generations and musical styles.

That was so beautiful, and it made me cry – for the message of love & hope in this surreal world, and because they’re both gone. I’m so glad that Bing was able to do did this just before he died and that the music that he & Bowie created will live on for us to enjoy. Thanks so much for posting, Wendy
