I completely agree — I completely agree. I’m almost 85 years old and lost my soul mate of 51 years just 13 months ago and was SO lonesome – all I could do was cry…I didn’t know where to lay my egg and one time even contemplated suicide. The only thing that prevented me from doing that was that if I died unrepentant, I wouldn’t have a chance of seeing her again in the life hereafter – so i stopped that thought. I was entering depression big time. I went to my daughter and he recommended me to see a grief counselor and I went. After a few meetings, he recommended me to get a pet that I could show love to and the pet could reciprocate that love in return. I knew someone at a shelter in Memphis, TN. and she took a few weeks and called me and said she has just the dog for me. I said “bring ‘er on.” This dog has the best personality of any dog I’ve ever had. Shows me unbridled, unrestrained, no holds bared love and of course I do the same in return. When I have those crying moments, she comes up beside me and stays there, looking up at me with those sorrowful eyes as if to say “I know what you’re feeling.” I wouldn’t take anything for my sweet “Lady”. I’ve had her for 10 months and she is really my best bud. Nothing can take the place of the warm and loving companionship of a spouse. But the love of a good dog can certainly help bridge the gap and make what life I have remaining, a little easier.
