There Were a Lot of Rules in the 1950s
This is a clip from a episode from my television series, Making Sense of the Sixties. My thesis was that it was largely the experiences that kids had in the 1950s that created many of the social and some of the political events that took place in the 1960s. Other segments from the series are on my YouTube channel. I do hope you enjoy this and find it thought-provoking. What did you think? This is not how I lived in the 50’s and 60’s. Far from it, we were allowed to express ourselves and our emotions in a respectful way. We had a genuine care for each other and we were not treated as if we were another species. The person who made this video does not represent mainstream 1950″s, but perhaps just his own experience.

You are absolutely right, Hanna! We were “poor” I guess. I certainly did not have the clothes, to begin with, portrayed here nor the homelife. Lucky if we had a decent hand me down pair of shoes to wear to school! I had dresses made from flour sacks….well you get the idea. The “upper” and popular wore the nice clothes, and they let you know it.
