What a Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong
“What a Wonderful World” is a popular song performed by Louis Armstrong, one of the most influential jazz musicians of all time. It was written by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss and was first released as a single in 1967. The song quickly gained widespread recognition and has since become one of Armstrong’s most well-known and beloved recordings.
“What a Wonderful World” is a heartfelt and optimistic song that celebrates the beauty and joy of the world. Its simple and uplifting lyrics convey a message of hope, love, and appreciation for the wonders of life. The song’s lyrics reflect on the simple pleasures and natural wonders that surround us, emphasizing the importance of embracing and cherishing the world we live in.
Louis Armstrong’s rendition of “What a Wonderful World” is particularly memorable due to his distinctive gravelly voice and his masterful interpretation of the song. Armstrong’s warm and soulful delivery adds a unique depth and emotion to the lyrics, making the song truly resonate with listeners.
Despite its initial success, “What a Wonderful World” did not top the charts upon its release. However, it experienced a resurgence in popularity in the 1980s when it was featured in the film “Good Morning, Vietnam,” and subsequently reached high positions on music charts around the world. Since then, the song has been widely covered and featured in various films, television shows, and commercials, further solidifying its status as a timeless classic.
“What a Wonderful World” has transcended generations and cultural boundaries, becoming a universally recognized and cherished song. Its optimistic and life-affirming message continues to resonate with people of all ages, reminding us to find beauty in the simplest things and appreciate the world we inhabit.

Always get tears when I hear this song. I remember the scene in Goodmorning Vietnam with young men boarding the chopper headed to their end. Life is beautiful but also is such a paradox.

In the mid-fifties my cousin would have somewhat to many cocktails, when so he would play the piano and sing WAWW all night. Many artists recorded this prior to Armstrong, but he and my cousin were the best. Thank You…
