In the United States, the best-known version was recorded by country music performer Roy Clark. His version became his biggest hit up to that time on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, peaking at No. 9 in August 1969, and indeed, it became his only top 40 pop hit, peaking at No. 19. I have always Loved this song…it somehow touches the deepest part of my soul. And I love the way Roy Clark sings it…Awesome Song !!!

OMG! The song does touch one’s soul. All he words are so true. I was young in 1969 and now at the end of the line and the words really hit home.

I remember this song from years ago, and have always liked it. There is much truth in these words. Roy Clark was a great entertainer, especially remember for the TV show “Hee Haw.”

Awesome, just like all of Roy’s songs. He is so blessed to be so talented. He can sing great and play many different instruments. My favorite is his super banjo music and I loved Hee Haw!
