Painting: Asher Durand, Sunday Morning, 1860

He hung the stars in the back of the night
then let their twinkle shine through.

He gathered the wind in the palm of His hand
to quiet the storm as it blew.

He set the sun to burn hot on the earth
and then taught the clouds how to cry.

With thunder and lighting and rain when it’s needed
to soak the ground when it’s dry.

He raises the flowers to bloom in the spring
and puts them to bed in the fall.

Their beauty recorded for next year’s return
just waiting for His beckoning call.

The mountains and rivers are works of His hand
the desert as well as the sea.

Then where it was needed He added a rock
and for shade He planted a tree.

The heavens He painted with the sweep of His hand
adding color as He brushed through the sky.

His angels were singing as God formed the world
for the children He loves, you and I.
