Twilight Time – The Platters (Live)
Twilight Time is a popular song recorded by the American vocal group The Platters. The Platters were one of the most successful vocal groups of the 1950s and 1960s, known for their smooth harmonies and romantic ballads. Twilight Time was released in 1958 and became one of their biggest hits.
The song was written by the trio of Buck Ram, Morty Nevins, and Al Nevins, who were prominent songwriters and producers at the time. It features a lush arrangement with a prominent string section, giving it a dreamy and atmospheric quality. Twilight Time is a love song that evokes a sense of nostalgia and romance, with lyrics that speak of treasured moments spent with a loved one during the twilight hours.
The Platters’ rendition of Twilight Time reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, making it their fourth number-one hit. It also achieved success internationally, becoming a chart-topper in the United Kingdom and Canada. The song’s popularity helped solidify The Platters’ status as one of the premier vocal groups of their era.
Over the years, Twilight Time has remained a beloved classic, often associated with the doo-wop and R&B sound of the late 1950s. Its timeless appeal has led to numerous cover versions by various artists across different genres. The song’s popularity also contributed to The Platters’ enduring legacy, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
Twilight Time serves as a testament to The Platters’ vocal prowess and their ability to create captivating melodies that resonate with audiences. Its soothing harmonies and romantic lyrics continue to captivate listeners, making it a cherished part of popular music history.

The singers back in our time were singers, now a days the so-called singers couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket.
Keep the memories coming and you bring a tear to this old mans eye.
Thank You for your site

You are so right, Richard. What so many of the “singers” do today is to scream into microphones and call it music. They have no clue! Today I put on a Mills Brothers cd, it was pure pleasure. This is a wonderful site.

One of my favorite songs in the ’50’s. The music and the artists were out of this world. Wish the 50’s were here to stay.

I envy those couples who found a lasting true love back in the fifties. A true love that kept them together throughout their adult lives. Most of us have memories of loves that were won and lost. These lucky couples capitalized on their early love and stayed together.

Yes we did, Dick. A wonderful time. Problems – you bet! Something so special, we worked to keep it. Many people don’t seem to want to do that anymore. Sad. And we had wonderful music. And, yes – those were the days!

The Platters were one of the groups whose songs we used to serenade the neighborhood at night under the corner streetlight. Miss those days.
