What was Christmas like in the 50’s? Back to Golden Days. The safety of tinsel: During the 1950s, tinsel and tinsel garlands were so popular that they were often used more than Christmas lights — because tinsel was less of a fire hazard than electric lights. Sparkle bright: Lead foil was a popular material for tinsel in the 1950s, because unlike silver, lead tinsel did not tarnish and retained its shine. What did you think? I was only a little girl in the 1950’s and I love Christmas and like the snow and spending time with my family and friends. Christmas is when families get together enjoy time with each other.

I was very little in the 50’s. I do remember in the 60’s we used ice cycles on the tree. They put the finishing touches on the tree.

THOSE WERE SUCH GOOD DAYS….SO MUCH MORE CONTENTMENT IN HEARTS.
ENJOYED SEEING THE ICICLES ON THE TREES, AS WE USED THEM EVERY YEAR.
